We know that you may have questions about our services, programs, and how you can get involved with We Care Community Services. This FAQ page is here to provide quick and helpful answers to some of the most common inquiries.
Why do you charge for items when they are donated to the Thrift Store?
We offer a free box in the front of our store that is open to anyone during store hours. The Thrift Center provides 80% of the budget for all of We Care Community Services that includes supporting our assistance programs, transitional shelter, tiny homes and for future service endeavors. We Care also provides 40+ jobs in our community.
Can anyone look for items in the Free Room at the Thrift Center?
Yes, anyone may look for items in our free room. There are no applications or qualifications.
Does the Thrift Center pick up items?
Yes. We Care Thrift Center can schedule to pick up large furniture items in decent condition. Contact our Thrift Center @ 423-775-6595
Does Rhea County have a “homeless problem”?
Yes, Rhea County has a significant unhoused population. In 2023 we assisted 165 individuals with safe shelter. We Care is actively working alongside local agencies and our county manager to find new ways to address the issues. In the future, We Care will be launching an effort to create affordable permanent housing.
Do you accept SNAP and EBT at the Food Market?
Yes.
Does the Food Market sell donated food?
No. Our Friendly Budget Market does not sell donations. The food available in our market is purchased from after-market wholesale and provided at low cost as a service to our community. Donated food items are kept separately and used to help provide emergency food to area families. Learn more HERE.
How does someone apply for assistance?
Applications for our emergency assistance program, emergency food and emergency housing services are available at our website. Fill out the necessary application on our website, and follow up with a phone call.
Do you pay employees or are they volunteers?
We do have paid employees and volunteer help as well. If you would like to volunteer with us, call or stop in to discuss ways you can be a part of something instrumental in your community.
Can I earmark my monetary donation?
Yes, you can designate your donation to any of our programs including Food, Transition Housing, Shelter, or Emergency Assistance Programs. Learn more HERE.
