Every day, We Care Community Services fulfills its mission of “helping people, help themselves” by providing vital resources to individuals and families facing hardship. For over 40 years, our Food Pantry and Emergency Housing programs have offered more than temporary relief—they’ve offered hope and the tools for lasting self-reliance wecaredayton.com. But none of this is possible without the generosity of our community. This month, we’re highlighting the specific items we urgently need to restock Food Boxes and supply Homeless Clients with hygiene essentials. Your donations literally change lives.
Why Your Support Matters
Access to nutritious food is a cornerstone of well-being. Our Food Pantry serves residents of Dayton, Evensville, and Graysville in Rhea County, distributing Food Box assistance every three months to eligible households. Each Basic Box is tailored to provide a balanced assortment of staples—cereal, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, rice, and more wecaredayton.com. Similarly, our Emergency Housing programs offer safe, transitional shelter for families and individuals working to regain stability. When we care for basic needs—food and hygiene—we restore dignity and empower people to build brighter futures.
Items Needed for Food Boxes
To keep Food Boxes fully stocked and ready for distribution, we need:
Can Openers (manual, sturdy)
Plastic Silverware (forks, spoons, knives)
Non-Perishable Food
Canned vegetables & fruits
Canned soups & chili
Boxed pasta & pasta sauces
Cereal & oatmeal
Peanut butter & crackers
Rice & dried beans
Every donated item ensures that when a family leaves our pantry, they have everything needed to prepare a nutritious meal at home. Simple tools like can openers and silverware make a major difference for clients who may have very limited kitchen supplies.
Essential Items for Our Homeless Clients
Personal hygiene and a safe place to store belongings are fundamental to dignity and health. We Care’s Homeless Client support relies on community donations of:
Bars of Soap
Shampoo & Conditioner
Toothbrushes & Toothpaste
Combs / Hair Brushes
Backpacks
These items go into individual hygiene kits and backpacks, ensuring that our clients in Micro Homes and Safe Haven shelters have the essentials for daily self-care and the ability to carry their belongings securely.
